Krista - When I grow up...

I went through several phases of what I wanted to be when I grew up...

I wanted to be an astronaut, which made sense since I live off the coast of Florida where the space shuttle calls home. Then, I realized I hated science. I wanted to be a teacher but realized patience was not one of my virtues. I also wanted to write. I wrote lots of cheesy love poems, and kept a journal chronicling my life thinking some day some one might be interested in knowing all these things about me.

In high school, I became very involved in Junior Achievement, which is an organization that works with children to teach them about business, economics, entrepreneurship and also work readiness skills. I was part of it every year, and I was VP of Marketing in our student run corporation(s) for 3 out of 4 years in school. I won the VP Marketing for the year in my local district area my senior year of high school (1996 - yikes!) and even attended the International Student Conference with other teens involved in JA from all over the country and the world. So when I graduated from high school and decided to pick a major for college, I thought the clear choice would be Marketing. Business just made sense to me. I was strong in Economics, and loved the ideas that came up with research and development. And I am probably boring most people here, but the point is, I was REALLY into my business classes. But I got burnt out after my first year of school. I was taking over the recommended amount of credits and working two jobs, and I had been a super good student all my life, but I was ready for a rebellion. So I quit.

Two years later, I decided it was time to go back to school. By then. I had become a bit disenchanted with business and marketing. I just wasn't a cut throat type of person, which most super successful business people are. So I had to figure something else out. I had taken a legal studies course in high school, which I enjoyed so I decided to take one on the college level. And I loved it. So I took another and realized that I really wanted to have a career within the legal field. I made it through and got my degree, and luckily found a job immediately after graduating and I've been doing it for 9 years now. I really wanted to be a legal assistant for a criminal defense attorney and help save those who were wrongly accused of crimes, but I fell into a different are of practice, which I love. I kind of ended up doing what I really wanted to do in life, it just took me a little while to get there!
